“Great city, great festival, and a wonderful community of book lovers!”- Gillian Flynn, Gone Girl

Bookmarks is a literary arts nonprofit organization that delivers experiences celebrating books and authors throughout the year with the goal of creating a community of passionate readers. Our programming includes: a free-to-the-public annual Festival of Books and Authors; an Authors in Schools initiative; Author Talks around the Triad, free and ticketed, presenting bestselling and award-winning authors. We reach 15,000 people annually with our events and programs including 5,000 students, ages three through college.

Bookmarks' Festival of Books and Authors is held in September on the Saturday following Labor day in Downtown Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Please save the date of Saturday, September 6, 2014 for our 10th Anniversary! The street festival format includes a mixture of enclosed tents plus indoor space. By including a mix of authors encompassing the range of literary genres, as well as performers, reading-related exhibitors, and a variety of food vendors, the festival offers an inviting atmosphere for all ages.

Bookmarks is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supported by grants, foundations, corporate sponsors, individuals, and fundraisers.
