Previous years’ festivals, Author Events, and "Conversation With" events have garnered significant media attention ranging from feature articles to morning live shots with local television stations. Marketing and Public Relations efforts increase as the festival and our standalone events continue to attract high-profile authors and becomes a save-the-date for book lovers.

BOOKMARKS 2O11 MEDIA COVERAGE

_ Conducted six-week ad campaign, with 17 ad insertions including a full page ad in theWinston-Salem Journal, five ads in The Chronicle, two ads in Que Pasa, two monthly ads in Piedmont Parent, two ads in Forsyth Family and Forsyth Woman magazines, one ad inWinston-Salem Junior League Informer, one ad in West Salem Neighborhood newsletter, one ad in the National Black Theatre Festival’s tabloid, and other targeted, special-interest publications

_ Feature articles about the Festival published in seven newspapers and tabloids across the state. Area media outlets covered the Festival on-site and published follow-up articles and photo galleries with additional articles on individual events throughout the year

_ Festival and events listed on calendars of numerous state, regional, and national media outlets, arts organizations, and their websites including C-Span’s Book TV, Our State, Publisher’s Weekly, Go Triad, Relish, Charlotte Observer, Raleigh News & Observer, North Carolina Arts Council, area city and state Chambers of Commerce, and individual participating authors’ and publishers’ websites, blogs and facebook pages

_ NC Piedmont Triad Time Warner Cable, as TV media sponsor, produced and aired PSAs before Festival

_ Festival principals and/or authors appeared in extended segments on the local morning shows of national television network affiliates leading up to the festival and before individual events for our “Conversation with” series

_ Interviews with Executive Director and Festival authors prior to Festival and for individual events on 600 AM WSJS

_ Promotional spots aired for Festival and individual events on Triad NPR affiliates, WFDD 88.5 and WSNC 90.5, media sponsors. Author interviews on both stations and an organizational profile and interview on “Triad Arts Up Close” on WFDD. Additional listings and on-air Festival PSAs included on radio stations throughout North Carolina

_ Festival events included in Forsyth County Public Library’s advertising and media coverage for 2011 On the Same Page program launched at BOOKMARKS, sponsoring author appearances, plus an interactive digital media workshop

_ Festival and event information shared in numerous external blogs and social media


BOOKMARKS 2O11 PROMOTION

_ Sent out general and author/subject specific press releases to Piedmont Triad media outlets, book clubs, schools and universities, and various nonprofit, corporate and literary organizations, etc. across the state

_ Distributed event flyers, coloring sheets, programs and posters throughout the region six weeks before Festival

_ Sent e-newsletter with updates, photos and information about our authors and sponsors to more than 2,000 people. This is sent monthly during the year and daily in the 10 days before the Festival

_ Continually updated BOOKMARKS website: bookmarksnc.org

_ Linked to sponsors’, nonprofits’, authors’ and publishers’ websites from BOOKMARKS’ website and Facebook page

_ Enhanced and increased BOOKMARKS’ social media reach via our Twitter, blog, and Facebook page. Fans up 200%

_ Programming Partners promoted the Festival to their employees as well as their general supporters and the public

_ Downtown organizations, businesses, and restaurants actively promoted to their constituencies and the public

_ Wake Forest University Stores, as the Festival bookseller, promoted festival, the “Conversation with” series, and their involvement in stores on campus and in the community

_ Publicized to independent schools, public schools and to home schools by creating and distributing two flyers promoting age-appropriate authors to all students in kindergarten through the twelfth grade in Forsyth County schools (approximately 66,000 students reached through take home packets)

_ Area colleges and universities promoted BOOKMARKS, with both Winston-Salem State University and High Point University hosting an author on the Friday before the Festival

_ Festival included in culture events brochure from Salem College, distributed to 10,000 supporters and alumni

_ Ten Festival authors appeared in schools before the festival (in addition to visits throughout the year), reaching 2,500 children in 2011

_ Conducted community outreach events via open houses, presentations at civic groups and book clubs, and at such events as: Juneteenth Celebration, downtown music concerts, Chik-fil-A Family Nights, Forsyth Family magazine’s Kids Night Out, movie night screenings of movies based on books by authors Lisa See and Tom Perrotta, and more

_ 2011 “Conversation with” events host partners promoted events to their constituencies and the public: Centenary United Methodist Church – Cokie and Steven Roberts, and RiverRun International Film Festival – Michael Connelly

_ Revamped BOOKMARKS’ Membership program based on Leadership Winston-Salem’s team study and initiated annual Membership Drive
