New York Times bestselling author Sue Monk Kidd will talk with readers, discuss her work, and sign copies of her books at “A Conversation with Sue Monk Kidd” Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Hanes Auditorium of Salem Fine Arts Center on the campus of Salem College. Tickets are required and seating is limited.
The event, part of Monk’s limited national tour for Penguin’s paperback release of her book “Firstlight,” is presented by BOOKMARKS with support from Salem College.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer this unique opportunity for the Triad community to experience such a distinguished author in an intimate setting,” said Debbie Harllee, BOOKMARKS president.
Monk, author of “The Secret Life of Bees,” “The Mermaid Chair,” and “Firstlight,” is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. “Firstlight” debuted on the New York Times extended bestseller list and was a book club selection for Spirituality and Health magazine. “The Secret Life of Bees” was awarded the 2004 Book Sense Paperback Book of the Year, nominated for the Orange Prize in England, and chosen as Good Morning America’s “Read This!” Book Club pick. It has also been produced on stage in New York and is being adapted into a movie by Focus Films.
Cameron Kent, author and Emmy Award-winning news anchor on WXII-12 News, will moderate the event. The program will be emceed by Sylvia Sprinkle-Hamlin, director of the Forsyth County Public Library.
General admission tickets are $22 and include a dessert reception and
book signing following the program. A limited number of premiere admission tickets are available for $95. Premier admission includes a private hors d’oeuvres reception with Kidd before the event at 5:30 p.m., a paperback copy of “Firstlight,” reserved premier seating during the program and limited VIP parking. A portion of the premier ticket, $57, is tax deductible.
